H.A.B.I.T. Research's Remora (Suction Cup) tags are hydro-dynamically
shaped to minimize drag. Attachment methodology options
include suction cup and have a standard corrodible release.
With the optional salt-water switch, the suction cup transmitter
only transmits when the animal surfaces and transmission
is duty-cycled to save battery power.
In addition to a VHF transmitter, optional sensors with
Data Logger (link to for diving depth, surface interval
times, velocity, temperature, light, and multi-plane tilt
is an option available.
The complete functioning modules are available with or
without attachment. *Due to the extreme variability in behavior
among animals, especially whales, tagging and sea conditions,
and effectiveness of deployment by a user, attachment times
of satellite tags will vary significantly between deployments.
As such, no guarantees are offered on these units once deployed.
In-field pre-deployment testing of uplink success with Argos
is required.
