HABIT Research manufactures both lightweight VHF and Argos
satellite transmitters for birds. The entire tiny VHF backpack
system including battery and potting material only weighs
5 grams! The lightest Argos satellite transmitter backpack
weight is 25 grams.
For larger birds, we use a lightweight reinforced rubber
collar. The bottom of the collar is flared so it does not
aggravate the bird. The internal circuitry is embedded into
the smooth plastic material for optimum comfort. Click the

For smaller birds, we recommend tracking tags incorporating
our VHF transmitter into backpacks, tail mounts, etc. Duty
cycling our VHF transmitter is an excellent way to extend
the life of the small batteries in these tags.
Depending on the application, we provide two types of antennas:
a lightweight stainless steel whip or our new composite
material. To suit your needs/requirements, we work with
you to determine the best configuration for your bird-tracking
project.
