TRANSMITTERS
VHF
HABIT Research VHF transmitters are versatile!
Two-stage VHF transmitters are affected by even a few degrees
temperature change, resulting in a significant change in
transmitting frequency. This also ensures consistent transmission
output, and battery power consumption.
Smart Beacon VHF transmitter options include:
- Duty cycle: Hourly-daily-weekly-monthly ON-OFF programming
- Mortality or activity/inactivity sensor: this alerts
the researcher when the animal being tracked has not moved
over a time interval (programmed at time of transmitter
manufacturing).
- Digital identification: transmits a digital ID over
the VHF signal, ID is displayed on Osprey receiver LCD
display
- Multi-plane sensor: to determine the orientation of
the transmitter, upright, on its side
Note that in any complete tag most of the volume and weight
will be in the battery and potting materials. Proper selection
of battery size and adequate, but not excessive, potting
are very important.
Combine them with satellite transmitters, various sensors
and data loggers to provide solutions for nearly any wildlife
tracking and monitoring requirement. Transmitters can be
configured into many different types of collars, implants,
modules etc. With HABIT’s Osprey series receiver you
can track up to 100 miles within line of sight! Tracking
range is several miles dependent on many factors such as
terrain and weather.
Standard output power (up to 35 milliWatts) provides an
excellent long-range tracking capability. Transmission can
be set to high power to accommodate study needs. The smallest
transmitter model is 3 mm x 9 mm x 18 mm and weighs only
5 g (with minimal potting, antenna, battery or connector.
We achieve this combination of high power and tiny size
with an efficient, highly optimized design and the use of
tiny surface mount and custom fabricated components. The
signal output is very clean and highly stable in particular
to accommodate the advanced data telemetry option available
with these transmitters.
